Handy Tips for Reading Your Plans
Plasterboard Ceilings
- Your ceiling area is usually the same as your floor area which can be obtained from your plans
- Usually allow 5% for wastage
- Wastage is usually used for backfill or backblocking
Plasterboard Walls
- Take lineal meterage of all walls (you can normally use your cornice measurement)
- Multiply this measurement by your elevation (floor level to ceiling level)
- This will equal your square meterage required
- Care should be taken as many walls will be doublesided
- Usually allow a 5% wastage factor
- Wastage used for backfill
Wet Areas
- Always measure your bathrooms as a separate area as a wet area board is recommended for these area
Insulation - Ceiling
- Simply use the square meterage of your floor area which can be obtained from your plans
Insulation - Walls
- Multiply your lineal meterage for your walls or cornices by your elevation to give you your square meterage
Raked Ceilings
- Multiply your room size by the pitch rating
Cornices
- Measure your lineal meterage of all walls requiring cornice
- Care should be taken as many walls will be double sided requiring cornice on both sides
- Measure across doorways
- Usually allow up to 15% wastage in your measurement
- Wastage used for backfill
